I love Christmastime, celebrating the day Jesus came to earth so He could save us from our sins. All of our mistakes and all the wrong things we do had broken the relationship with God that He wants us to have. So, Jesus came to put things right.
In Sunday School, we learned more about some of the groups of Berber people who live in Algeria. Many of the Berber people in Algeria haven’t heard or understood the Good News about Christmas.
The Central Shilha Berber people are shepherds, much like the shepherds God announced Jesus’ birth to 2,000 years ago. Family and tradition are very important to the Central Shilha Berber. To break with the traditional religion of their families is really hard, and it can hurt very precious family relationships.
The Southern Shilha Berber people of Algeria and Morocco long to have a real relationship with God. They long for more than rules and religious regulations. They know there must be more to life. But, they don’t know where to look.
“Dear God, please help the Central Shilha Berber people hear and receive the message that angels brought to shepherds two thousand years ago. ‘Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.’ And, please help the Southern Shilha Berber to hear the truth of Your love for them and understand that You created them to know You, not just know about rules. Thank You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
