Today in Sunday School, we learned about the country of Algeria. It’s a country in northern Africa that borders the Mediterranean Sea. It’s also the home of many of the Berber people.
The Berbers are a group of people that are really made up of many different smaller groups, like the Kabyle Berbers, the Rif Berbers, the Central Shilha Berbers, and the Southern Shilha Berbers.
The Kabyle Berbers are a very proud people who have fought for a long time to hang on to what makes them unique and special as a group of people. But, as times keep changing, that is getting harder and harder to do.
Our teacher also told us about the Rif Berber people. They have a very hard life, full of poverty and despair. They live in the harsh mountains of Algeria and have little hope of anything.
Our teacher reminded us of what Jesus said in John 10:10 (KJV), “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Everybody needs an abundant life, a life that is full of joy deep down in our hearts no matter what happens, a life of faith, knowing that God never forgets us.
“Dear God, please help the Kabyle Berber people to understand that every single person is unique and very special to You. Please help the Rif Berber people to understand and accept the abundant life of joy and faith that You want to give them. Thank You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
